The American Psychological Association supports psychologists and other academics in Turkey who signed the Academics for Peace petition, and reiterates its commitment to academic freedom, the free and responsible practice of science, and freedom of speech.

Prof. Dr. Füsun Üstel Acquitted

Prof. Üstel, who served two-and-a-half months in prison for having signed the Peace Declaration, has been acquitted of the charge of "propagandizing for a terrorist organization."

While bianet columnist and food engineer Asst. Prof. Bülent Şık has been acquitted of “provision of prohibited information”, he has been sentenced to 1 year, 3 months in prison for “disclosure of information about duty”. His sentence has not been deferred.
