The legal struggle of the Academics for Peace, who have been expelled by State of Emergency (OHAL, in Turkish ) Decrees, has been going on for nearly six years. Since the applications made to the State of Emergency Commissions were summarily rejected, the Academics have now brought annulment cases which will start being heard by the specially appointed administrative courts in Ankara, on October 27^th and 30^th and November 25^th, 2022. 

Prof. Dr. Nejla Kurul, an academic expelled from Ankara University, now chair of the teachers' union Eğitim-Sen, recalls events that followed the 'Peace Petition' signed on 11 January 2016, and makes assessments.

In 2013, the Turkish authorities and the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) began a so-called ‘peace process’ in an attempt to resolve the decades-long conflict between them. After two years of talks under ceasefire conditions, however, the conflict resumed in the summer of 2015 when the process fell apart.

In fact, what causes a problem for a woman is not ageing but the accumulation of all the inequalities imposed on her throughout her life due to being a woman. This shows us that we cannot talk about ageing without talking about women, femininity, and sexism.

On September 25, 2020, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued arrest warrants against 82 members of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), the second biggest opposition party in Turkish Parliament, including 24 former Central Executive Committee members.  They were taken into custody and were restricted from meeting their attorneys for 24 hours.
