On September 25, 2020, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued arrest warrants against 82 members of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), the second biggest opposition party in Turkish Parliament, including 24 former Central Executive Committee members.  They were taken into custody and were restricted from meeting their attorneys for 24 hours. Pesticides are hazardous chemicals used in agriculture. It is safe to say that I have got tired of writing about the issue of pesticides. But, it is also a necessity to follow what is going on about the issue and inform the public about the latest developments and changes of state, if there are any.

Last January, Greenpeace Mediterranean announced the findings of a field research that was conducted to detect pesticide residues in food.

Defending Human Rights in Turkey: Bülent Şık

Bülent Şık is a food engineer and public health researcher, convicted for his whistle-blowing activities. Despite being barred from his research and academia in Turkey, Şık has remained steadfast in his work to spread information relating to public health which he believes the public has a right to know. Sustained attention and a proactive strategy by the EU and its Member States is needed to ensure Bülent Şık and other human rights defenders in Turkey can continue their work.

Over 600 world-renowned scientists, including Nobel laureates, have condemned the 15-month prison sentence given to bianet columnist, food engineer Asst. Prof. Bülent Şık for sharing the results of a cancer research with the public.

We need to avoid overcooking processes such as keeping food in high temperatures for a long time, etc. out of fear or worry about the virus. We have to keep cooking our food how we have always cooked them.

Though it is usually called coronavirus on social media, the coronavirus that causes "Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome" (SARS) is termed "coronavirus 2" or "SARS-CoV-2" in abbreviation.

Developers of new index rating countries by their level of academic freedom are challenging university rankers to consider such freedoms more broadly.
