3 More Academics Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison
Academics Kovankaya, Keleşoğlu and Garip have been sentenced to 15 months in prison in the hearings held at 32nd Heavy Penal Court, the sentences have been suspended.
Hearings of academics, who have been standing trial on charge of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” for having signed the declaration entitled “We will not be a party to this crime” prepared by Academics for Peace, continued in İstanbul Courthouse 32nd Heavy Penal Court.
5 Academics Stand Trial at 2 Courts
Five academics have had their first hearings at two different courts. The 24th Heavy Penal Court Board has granted the academics additional time so that they can prepare their statements of defence regarding the allegation of “aiding a terrorist organization as non-members.”
Professors Üstel, Polat Sentenced to 1 Year 3 Months in Prison
Prof. Dr. Esen from Boğaziçi University has made her defence at her first hearing at 14th Heavy Penal Court. As for the professors Üstel and Polat, the 32nd Heavy Penal Court has sentenced them to 1 year 3 months in prison. The penalty of Üstel has not been postponed.
9 Academics Stand Their First Trial in 3 Courts
While one of three courts have approved the demand that files be requested from 13th Heavy Penal Court, the other two rejected. Demands for immediate acquittal have been rejected.
